Make this Mother’s Day one she’ll remember with CityCenterDC’s superb collection of covetable gifts and culinary experiences.
Think of all the reasons you’re grateful for your mom (and don’t forget the honorary mother figures that make your life meaningful!) There’s a good chance your recognition list is too long to count. It’s exactly why this Mother’s Day we’re keen on giving as much back to them — the devoted aunt, the high-minded mother-in-law and the ultra-caring work colleague included — as they do for us.
At CityCenterDC, we’re set to help you surprise and spoil her in all the ways that matter. From the style-minded mom who’d appreciate any addition to her collection (perhaps a pair of pumps from the brand-new Christian Louboutin boutique at CityCenterDC?), to the one who’d really cherish family time over bowls of handmade pasta, we’re flush with thoughtful gift ideas and experiences that show her just how much you care.
When you think of Christian Louboutin, your first thought might be the iconic, red-lacquered soles that have made this brand a household name. Turns out, the namesake designer behind these heels is just as legendary. Establishing his business in Paris in 1992, Christian Louboutin has since fashioned fantasy into wearable works of art, drawing on everything from the magnificent to the mundane to inform his footwear design. “Inspiration could come anytime, anywhere—from architecture, objects, textiles, dance, or the way someone is moving. It can be anything,” he said. “If you keep your eyes wide open, there is inspiration everywhere you look.”
Today, Louboutin’s business has expanded beyond beautiful stilettos to include gentlemen’s shoes, footwear for little ones, covetable beauty collections and even pet accessories. It’s freedom of expression for everyone.
For the opening of Christian Louboutin’s first boutique in Washington, D.C. — the perfect addition to CityCenterDC’s lineup — the team took inspiration from the designer’s own apartment in the heart of Paris. “The boutiques should look like a living room where people do not feel like they are in a store but in the home of a friend, who loves them and knows them well,” said Louboutin. To achieve this warm, inviting feeling, the details were all designed to be impactful: a facade made of crimson scales and tiles, floral wallpaper illustrated by French artist Alexandre Poulaillon and signature curved alcoves throughout the store where his creations are displayed. The 1,750 square foot space features two rooms resembling a daytime lounge and evening living room, both covered in the Maison’s signature red carpeting. Expect to see a selection of men’s and women’s styles from the current season as well as the brand’s quintessential pieces, like the Kate and Pigalle pumps.

If mom’s love language is quality time, treat her to one of CityCenterDC’s memorable epicurean options. For highly seasonal menus head to Estuary where picture-perfect local oysters are on. Craving something hearty? Make a reservation at Centrolina, a light-filled hotspot where Chef Amy Brandwein’s lineup of sumptuous pastas (a white bolognese on pici included) are guaranteed to please. And no matter where you dine, be sure to make an end-of-meal stop at Dolcezza. The gelateria’s latest flavors — dairy-free Avocado Honey Orange and Gianduja, a grown-up version of Nutella harvested from hazelnuts grown in the Piedmont region of Italy — are a sweet way of saying thank you.
For a more classic Mother’s Day experience, book a coveted reservation for Fig & Olive’s special brunch on May 14th. With a glass of bubbles in hand, you’ll enjoy a prix fixe three-course taste of the French Riviera, complete with frangipane-crusted French toast, Mediterranean-baked eggs and mixed berry cheesecake (just to name a few!)
If you’re in the mood for a quick sip, indulge in the restaurant’s Season of the Spritz event, which pays homage to the unbridled joy of the bubbly cocktail. It’s yielded four mouth-watering creations including the Mougins, made with olive oil-washed vodka, yellow chartreuse, orange, cardamom and prosecco.
