Spring is in Full Bloom at CityCenterDC

Celebrate the cherry blossom season with festive moments.

WASHINGTON, DC (MARCH 26, 2021)

It seems spring has finally arrived as temperatures creep upward and Washingtonians eagerly celebrate cherry blossom season. In the heart of the district, CityCenterDC is preparing for peak bloom with an enchanting Palmer Alley installation and a dining experience that will transform downtown D.C. into a seasonal oasis. “While the city begins to see brighter days ahead, we are excited to bring the community vibrant socially-distanced experiences,” said Timothy R. Lowery, general manager of CityCenterDC.

The pedestrian-friendly development has once again been reimagined into a seasonal destination as Palmer Alley has been transformed into a sea of lanterns in shades of blossoming pink. One of the first beacons of spring in the Nation’s Capital, the open-air overhead art installation mirrors the stunning cherry blossoms that bloom just steps away from CityCenterDC. Patrons and passers-by won’t be able to resist this seasonal Instagrammable moment.

CityCenterDC is excited to share a new dining experience for restaurant patrons to enjoy. Be immersed in a vision of spring while dining al fresco in transformed greenhouses filled with cherry blossoms in Bloom at CityCenterDC! Participating restaurants, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse and Fig & Olive, will have reservations available starting March 26, 2021. Guests can savor the tastes of the season while celebrating springtime in the district. To reserve a dining experience guests can call the restaurants directly.

WHAT

Guests visiting CityCenterDC can enjoy music from local DMV-based Violinist Stephanie Mathias. Guests can expect a beautiful live performance in The Plaza at CityCenter featuring Stephanie’s award-winning violin playing.

In addition, as part of the 2021 National Cherry Blossom Festival’s Art in Bloom project, CityCenterDC will be participating in a community-wide public art exhibition showcasing the visual arts and revealing the creative and whimsical sides of the Festival and the nation’s capital. Twenty-six Art in Bloom sculptures that feature unique designs painted by local artists will be revealed all across the D.C. metro area. Cherry Tattoo, designed by street artist Andrew Funk, will be on display in The Park at City Center.

“My intention for this project was to make the sculpture look similar to how cherry blossoms are traditionally depicted in classic Japanese style tattoos. Since the cherry blossoms at the tidal basin were a gift from Japan, I thought it would be a great way to represent their contribution to our city.” Said artist Andrew Taylor.
