CELEBRATION Alley

A Summer of Color, Connection & Joy
This summer, Palmer Alley becomes Celebration Alley—CityCenterDC’s boldest expression of unity, joy, and creative spirit. Overhead, waves of vibrant fabric unfurl in a luminous canopy, transforming our iconic open-air corridor into a kaleidoscope of color, movement, and meaning.
Celebration Alley
Designed as a celebration of both the season and the spectrum of human identity, Celebration Alley is a sensory experience—a place to pause, play, and feel something beautiful. Throughout the summer, the installation sets the stage for curated activations that invite locals and visitors alike to gather, connect, and celebrate—from patriotic moments to Pride festivities and everything in between.
The Fabric of Freedom
As Washington, DC prepares to host WorldPride 2025, Celebration Alley stands as a vibrant tribute to 50 years of LGBTQ+ pride in our nation’s capital. Inspired by the original 1978 Pride flag designed by Gilbert Baker—and expanded through the powerful symbolism of the Progress Pride Flag—the installation radiates with meaning.
Each hue tells a story: red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, blue for serenity, purple for spirit. Black and brown stripes honor LGBTQ+ communities of color, while pink, blue, and white uplift trans and intersex identities. Together, they form a visual symphony—one that doesn’t just decorate the sky but declares who we are. Here, beneath a radiant spectrum, we’re reminded that color is more than decoration—
it’s a declaration. A vibrant language of unity, resilience, and the rich diversity that shapes the LGBTQ+ experience.
