Five Perfect Ways to Celebrate Cherry Blossoms

EDITORIAL

There’s a fleeting magic that arrives in Washington each spring, soft, romantic, and impossible to ignore. The National Cherry Blossom Festival returns for 2026 from March 20 through April 12, marking the city’s most beloved season.

But what exactly are cherry blossoms? These delicate pink blooms, gifted from Japan over 110 years ago, symbolize renewal, beauty, and the enduring friendship between nations. For a few short weeks, they transform the city into a living postcard, an experience as meaningful as it is breathtaking. At CityCenterDC, this tradition is reimagined through art, culture, and curated experiences.

An annual visitor favorite, CityCenterDC’s cherry blossom installation commemorates a long time D.C. tradition, bringing the poetry of the season into the heart of downtown. Spring days in the city don’t get better than this.
